A commitment to discipline...

No matter what area of our lives we are seeking to make better, one thing is paramount - we need to commit to a lifelong pursuit of discipline. We need to make a commitment to ourselves and to God that no matter what happens we will run the race, keep the faith and keep on keeping on.

The following verses are amazing when it comes to think about making a commitment. The verbs that are used are all words to help us keep moving forward, keep moving towards our ultimate goals and to keep our thoughts on glorifying God in all that we do. I’ve highlighted a few that I think are important to note…
·         1 Corinthians 9:26

"Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty.
Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air."

·         Philippians 3:13-14

"Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,
I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has
called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."

·         1 Timothy 6:12

"Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life
to which you were called when you made your good confession
in the presence of many witnesses."

·         2 Timothy 2:3

"Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus."

·         2 Timothy 2:5

"Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not
receive the victor’s crown except by competing according to the rules."

·         2 Timothy 4:7

"I have fought the good fight,
I have finished the race,
I have kept the faith."

·         Hebrews 12:1

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us…"

Every single one of those verses has words like run, press on, fight, competes… this isn’t something that is going to be easy, but it is definitely something that will be very worthwhile. We are called to be this diligent in our relationship with God– in protecting our times with Him above everything else, and to make sure we are growing in His Word. But we also need to apply these thoughts to every section of our life. Imagine the difference if we did our house-work or our exercise video or our dinner preparation with the purpose and passion that we (should) approach God’s Word. We need to put that passion into everything… so that, in turn, Christ shines through us in everything we do.
Hope you got something out of this. I am just so excited about the prospect of doing everything totally for God… so in everything that we do – keep the faith and keep shining… J
